To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what plans he has to distribute to all UK citizens public information packs on personal protection in the event of chemical, biological, radioactive or nuclear attack; and if he will make an assessment of information packs recently produced by private sector firms. [holding answer 27 March 2003]I refer the hon. Member to the reply I gave the hon. Member for Weston-super-Mare (Brian Cotter) on 10 March 2003,Official Report, olumn 69W. I would like the House tobe assured that we are considering every option for how the Government would provide appropriate information at an appropriate time for the public.

The Government will not comment on information packs produced by private sector firms as it does not comment on matters that may have commercial implications.

At the end of December 2002, 3,865 asylum seeker households (comprising 1,295 individuals and 2,570 families) were being supported by the Department for Work andPensions (DWP).
