HL Deb 02 April 2003 vol 646 c130WA
Lord Patten

asked Her Majesty's Government:

How many beds there are in National Health Service hospitals in England; and how many administrators there are in the National Health Service in England. [HL2093]

Baroness Andrews

In 2001–02 the average daily number of beds was 184,871. The number of managers in administration and estates employed in the National Health Service as at September 2001 was 27,420. This represents only 3 per cent of the NHS workforce.
