HL Deb 24 September 2002 vol 638 c187WA
Lord Faulkner of Worcester

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What measures they are taking to ensure that no British business facilitates or orchestrates tobacco smuggling, or assists in the funding of terrorism or the support of the illicit drug trade, organised crime or money laundering. [HL5422]

Lord Falconer of Thoroton

These activities are criminal under United Kingdom law and where there is evidence that offences have been committed offenders will be prosecuted. The adequacy of the criminal law in these areas is kept under review and in the case of money laundering existing provisions have recently been substantially strengthened in the Anti-terrorism, Crime and Security Act 2001 and the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002.
