Mr. Drew

To ask the Deputy Prime Minister what discussions he has had with rural organisations on the subject of developing the capacity of parish and town councils to handle more of the planning process. [76992]

Mr. McNulty

The Deputy Prime Minister has had a number of discussions with rural organisations, including the Countryside Agency, where he has discussed the role of parish councils in the planning process.

The Office of the Deputy Prime Minister's officials have also had discussions with the Countryside Agency and the National Association of Local Councils on the role of parish and town councils more generally.
