§ Ms Blears[holding answer 21 October 2002]: Following plans in "Getting Ahead of the Curve" to transfer functions of the public health laboratory service (PHLS) and a number of other bodies to the proposed Health Protection Agency, we issued a consultation document on the necessary legislation in June 2002. We are now considering the replies and will announce our final decisions as soon as possible. Decisions about the transfer of the majority of the PH LS laboratories to the National Health Service were announced in September.
