HC Deb 14 October 2002 vol 390 c490W
Mr. Peter Duncan

To ask the Secretary of State for Health for what reason no city in Scotland was nominated for membership of European Cities Against Drugs. [70896]

Ms Blears

Neither the United Kingdom Government nor the Scottish Executive is linked to the European cities against drugs movement, and no UK cities have been nominated for membership. The Government believes that there is a place for appropriate harm minimisation measures, in particular to reduce the rising number of drug-related deaths, as part of the overall national drugs strategy. Harm minimisation measures are opposed by the European cities against drugs movement.
