HL Deb 07 October 2002 vol 639 c13WA
Lord Clement-Jones

asked Her Majesty's Government:

When the public can expect an announcement of the ministerial decision regarding the funding for the provision of non-United Kingdom plasma anticipated by the National Blood Service on 8 February. [HL5703]

Lord Hunt of Kings Heath

The Government announced on 15 August 2002 that fresh frozen plasma will be obtained from the United States for new-born babies and young children born after 1 January 1996 as an added precaution against the theoretical risk of variant Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease transmission. This announcement is in line with advice from the United Kingdom expert advisory committee on Microbiological Safety of Blood and Tissues for Transplantation.
