To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Skills what assessment he has made of the value of target-setting in primary schools. [81980]

The value of target setting is evident from the part it has played in the unprecedented success of primary schools in raising standards of literacy and numeracy. Since the introduction of the National Literacy and Numeracy Strategies schools have achieved a 10 per cent, point improvement in the number of 11-year-olds achieving the expected level in English, and 14 per cent, point improvement in mathematics. This year's results taken together were the best ever.

Forward to
