HC Deb 20 November 2002 vol 394 cc140-1W
Mrs. May

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Skills if he will publish the reasons for not approving the recent Wokingham Unitary Council bid for a PFI to build new buildings for a secondary school and a special school, together with other community facilities; and if he will make a statement. [81755]

Mr. Miliband

The PFI bid submitted by Wokingham council was one of 53 received from local education authorities (LEAs) for the 2003–04 financial year. Each proposal was evaluated by officials against the published criteria, and then scored and ranked. The Wokingham bid was ranked below the top 21 that we were able to support. My officials have provided the LEA with detailed feedback and have offered to provide further advice on the preparation of a future bid.
