HC Deb 04 November 2002 vol 392 c76W
Mr. McNamara

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs how much has been spent in recruiting staff to his Department in(a) London and (b) the south east in each year since 1997. [78563]

Mr. Mike O'Brien

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office recruits nationally. We do not, therefore break down the recruitment budget by region. The following figures include money spent on recruitment in its widest sense. This includes general marketing via careers fairs, as well as targeted marketing aimed at under-represented groups such as minority ethnic communities and women.

Financial Year £
1997–98 995,293
1998–99 1,622,811
1999–2000 1,999,803
2000–01 2,543,387
2001–02 2,791,659
2002–03 11,501,626
