HL Deb 04 November 2002 vol 640 c80WA
The Earl of Northesk

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Further to the recent comments of Mr Stephen Timms, Minister for e-commerce, at the Information Assurance Advisory Council's third annual symposium, what additional proposals they have to both promote information technology security and to assist United Kingdom companies in delivering it, with particular reference to possible legislative options. [HL6051]

Lord Sainsbury of Turville:

My honourable friend the Minister for e-commerce said in his address to IAAC's third annual symposium that the department is preparing a new element of the UK Online for Business website aimed at introducing smaller companies to information security management and technologies. After this is finalised, we will seek other ways to get this information to smaller users. We have no proposals to regulate this area and believe that business will rise to the challenge of integrating security into its products and services.
