HL Deb 04 November 2002 vol 640 c57WA
Baroness Masham of Ilton

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they agree with the recommendation of a study published earlier this year in The Lancet that only one embryo should be implanted in the wombs of women undergoing fertility treatment. [HL6129]

Lord Hunt of Kings Heath:

The Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority reviewed its embryo transfer policy in 2001, issuing guidance to clinics that the number of embryos to be transferred in normal cases should reduce from three to two. The authority is keeping its policy under review.
