§ Dr. WhiteheadIn 2001, the most recent year for which figures are available, the total cost of undertaking Best Value Performance Plan audits was £11.45 million. The average cost to councils, by type, was:
- £52,500—London Boroughs
- £43,400—Metropolitan Councils
- £37,500—Unitary Authorities
- £37,500—County Councils
- £21,500—District Councils
