To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what proportion of those convicted of criminal offences against young people were themselves young people in each of the last three years. [55045]

Mr. Keith Bradley

[holding answer 16 May 2002]: In 1998 and 1999, 10 per cent. of those convicted of criminal offences against young people where the age of the victim is known from the description of the offence were themselves young people. In 2000 the figure was 9 per cent.

Statistics for 2001 will be published in the autumn.
