HL Deb 15 May 2002 vol 635 c45WA
Lord Ouseley

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they are considering withdrawing benefits from families whose children are out of school because of the failure of the local education authority to provide a school place for attendance. [HL4232]

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department for Work and Pensions (Baroness Hollis of Heigham)

The Government are considering a number of measures to combat truancy. We are therefore looking at ways of ensuring parents meet their responsibilities in bringing up their children.
