HC Deb 07 May 2002 vol 385 c94W
13. Tony Wright

To ask the Secretary of State for Health if he will make a statement on the right of GPs to remove patients from their list. [52784]

Mr. Hutton

General practitioners have the right to remove patients from their list but in so doing they should comply with the guidance provided by the General Medical Council. Patients should be removed only as a last resort and GPs should as far as possible give reasons for the removal. Changes to the procedures for removing patients from GP lists are being renegotiated as part of the new contract for GPs.
