HC Deb 07 May 2002 vol 385 c29W
Mr. Greg Knight

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport, Local Government and the Regions (1) when he expects the carriageway repairs on the A1 south of Newark to be completed; [52608]

(2) what reasons the carriageway repair work being carried out on the A1 south of Newark is not being carried out on a 24 hour basis. [52609]

Mr. Spellar

The carriageway repairs on the A1 south of Newark finished on 29 April 2002, six days earlier than originally expected. Before they began, the Highways Agency consulted Kesteven district council and it was agreed that work would not be done overnight to avoid causing disturbance to nearby residential properties.

Drivers will now benefit from a smoother, quieter ride and the residents of Long Bennington will notice a marked decrease in noise.
