HC Deb 01 May 2002 vol 384 cc815-6W
Mr. Nigel Jones

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport, Local Government and the Regions what additional resources he will make available to Gloucestershire county council to maintain the A40 following de-trunking; and if he will make a statement. [52934]

Mr. Jamieson

I have asked the Chief Executive of the Highways Agency, Mr. Tim Matthews, to write to the hon. Member.

Letter from Tim Matthews to Nigel Jones dated 1 May 2002: I have been asked by the Transport Minister, David Jamieson, to reply to your recent Parliamentary Question about future funding of the A40 in Gloucestershire. We are discussing with the County Council the additional resources to be transferred to them to maintain the A40 following its detrunking. The basis for those discussions is the methodology, agreed between the Local Government Association and DTLR, for transferring routine maintenance resources to local authorities.
