HC Deb 01 May 2002 vol 384 cc823-4W
Dr. Vis

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many juveniles in prisons are looked-after children. [52140]

Beverley Hughes

The Youth Justice Board for England and Wales (YJB) is responsible for commissioning and purchasing secure accommodation for juveniles, and for setting and monitoring standards.

The information requested is not currently collected systematically. However, the YJB is now putting in place a system to do this. The YJB is also in the process of commissioning research into the numbers and needs of looked-after children in custody.
