HC Deb 26 March 2002 vol 382 cc848-9W
Mr. Liddell-Grainger

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence what assessment he has made of whether the export of munitions from the USA to the United Kingdom will be subject to the 2001 Security Assistance Act going through the US Congress. [45102]

Dr. Moonie

The contents of United States legislation are of course a matter for the United States Government. However, I understand that the primary purpose of the draft legislation is not the control of exports; in that respect it does not, in its current form, change the contents or the scope of the US Munitions List, though it does refer to it. It includes some policy recommendations relating to the administration of the United States' export control process but is more concerned with the funding of the United State security assistance programmes with various countries, including non-proliferation work.
