HC Deb 26 March 2002 vol 382 cc804-5W
Mr. Salmond

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what the expenditure was per campaign for the five most expensive media advertising campaigns his Department undertook in the past five parliamentary Sessions including the current parliamentary Session in(a) Scotland, (b) England, (c) Wales and (d) Northern Ireland; and for the last two parliamentary Sessions and the current Session, when each advertising campaign (i) began and (ii) ended in (A) Scotland, (B) England, (C) Wales and (D) Northern Ireland. [37395]

Mr. MacShane

There has only been one media advertising campaign in the last five years in the UK.

Between March-May 1998, the FCO carried out a £1 million television and information campaign for British nationals travelling to France for the World Cup.

The campaign was run in Scotland and England, as they were the only two home teams to qualify.

Information on when elements of the advertising campaign began and ended in Scotland, England, Wales and Northern Ireland could only be provided at disproportionate cost.
