HL Deb 25 March 2002 vol 633 cc2-3WA
Baroness Anelay of St Johns

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What discussions they have held in 2002 with the Governors of the BBC on the issues raised by the publication of the BBC document BBC Governance in the Ofcom Age; and what conclusions they have reached as a consequence of those discussions. [HL3267]

Baroness Blackstone

Gavyn Davies, Chairman of the BBC, outlined the reforms set out in the BBC documentBBC Governance in the Ofcom Age when he met the Secretary of State on 11 February. My right honourable friend the Secretary of State has welcomed the changes as a very useful clarification and strengthening of the role of the BBC Governors, with the aim of allowing the board to concentrate more on its responsibility to ensure that the BBC serves the public interest.
