HC Deb 18 March 2002 vol 382 cc152-3W
Mr. Bercow

To ask the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions what assessment he has made of the extent of the gender pay gap among staff in his Department. 140998]

Malcolm Wicks

The former Department of Social Security and the Employment Services agreed in 2001 to undertake equal pay reviews to determine whether our current pay policies directly or indirectly discriminate against any groups of employees and provide risks in relation to equal pay.

Draft reports have recently been produced, which we are currently reviewing with trade unions.

Early key findings indicate that pay policies highlight the importance of equality and there is no evidence of discrimination because of vnder.
