HC Deb 11 March 2002 vol 381 c747W
Chris Grayling

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport, Local Government and the Regions what recent estimates his Department has made on the impact of school bus schemes on road congestion. [41658]

Ms Keeble

We commissioned consultants to carry out an assessment of the potential take-up of additional home to school transport were this to be provided. The study, which reported in October 2001, found that 48 per cent, of parents who currently drive children to school would consider switching. We intend to commission an evaluation of First's pilot Yellow School Bus scheme which will include an assessment of the modal shift from car to bus.
