HC Deb 08 March 2002 vol 381 cc641-2W
Ms Atherton

To ask the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs what representations she has received from the freedom to roam to be introduced on a region-by-region basis. [39384]

Alun Michael

There have been a number of such representations, mainly in favour of bringing the right of access under Part I of the Countryside and Rights of Way Act 2000 into force within each region as soon as the conclusive map of open country and registered common land for that region is issued. I undertook to decide our approach in the light of the experience in the first two areas to be mapped and I hope to make an announcement shortly.
