HC Deb 06 March 2002 vol 381 cc355-6W
Mr. Bercow

To ask the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry if she will make it her policy that rail journeys undertaken by staff in her Department should ordinarily be on standard class tickets. [40430]

Ms Hewitt

The Department's policy on travel is set out in its staff handbook "The Guide" which statesNeed for economy (minimum expenses rule) Staff travelling on official business must take advantage of any cheap facilities which may be available (e.g. special offers, day returns or season tickets) wherever practical. Line managers and staff should keep total expenses to the minimum, consistent with efficiency.
