To ask the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions if he will estimate the cost of the minimum income guarantee in 2050 in today's prices if it is raised in line with earnings and if the basic state pension is raised in line with prices. [35844]

[holding answer 12 February 2002]: The estimated cost of uprating the MIG in line with earnings is approximately £12 billion in today's prices in 2050.
