HC Deb 05 March 2002 vol 381 c282W
Dr. Evan Harris

To ask the Secretary of State for Health what assessment he has made of the impact of the recommendations for future health care in the interim report by Derek Wanless and the medicine reclassification initiatives upon plans for the future training of doctors, nurses, pharmacists and other health care professionals; and if he will make a statement on the plans for such training. [36296]

Mr. Hutton

HM Treasury commissioned a report by Derek Wanless, "Securing our Future Health: Taking a Long-Term View" to review the technological, demographic and medical trends over the next two decades that will affect the national health service. An interim report has been issued for consultation. A final report is expected later this year.

The Government are committed to making more medicines more widely available where it is safe to do so and the training and information needs of health care professionals and patients is an integral part in this process.
