To ask the Secretary of State for Transport, Local Government and the Regions if he will list the total public and private investment, not including public resource expenditure, allocated(a) in total and (b) for the railways to be spent over the period 2001 to 2011, at (i) today's prices and (ii) outturn prices as at (A) the launch of the 10 year plan in July 2000, (B) 1 April 2001, (C) 2 April 2001, (D) 13 January 2002, (E) 14 January 2002, (F) 22 January 2002, (G) 23 January 2002, (H) 29 January 2002, (I) 7 February 2002 and (J) the present date. [holding answer 4 March 2002]: I refer the hon. Member to Table A3 of the 10-Year Plan and a revised version of this table that was placed in the House Library on 25 February. These tables provide a breakdown of projected public and private investment from the original 10-Year Plan and reflect the £4.5 billion increase in public sector funding for rail since then.

No similar detailed breakdowns were undertaken at the particular dates mentioned. The investment profiles can be translated into today's prices by applying standard HM Treasury inflation assumptions.
