HC Deb 05 March 2002 vol 381 c264W
Mr. Letwin

To ask the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport if she will make it her policy to include church organs as part of the fabric of the building for the purposes of the listed places of worship scheme. [39692]

Dr. Howells

[holding answer 1 March 2002]: There are no plans to include church organs in the list of eligible criteria for the listed places of worship scheme. In devising a scheme that is as simple and straightforward as possible to operate, the Government have kept as close as possible to the existing VAT law for listed building alterations, so that if and when a reduced rate is introduced, its scope will mirror as nearly as possible that of the grant scheme.
