To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many(a) black and (b) white youths died as a result of (a) knife attacks and (b) firearm attacks in (i) the Metropolitan Police district and (ii) England in 2001. [61850]

The information requested is given in the attached table. During 2000–01, there were eight black youth victims of sharp weapon homicide throughout England (seven of which occurred in the Metropolitan Police district). There were 11 white youth victims of sharp weapon homicide, two of which were within the Metropolitan Police district.

For firearm homicide, there were no black youth victims throughout 2000–01. There were four white youth victims, none of which occurred within the Metropolitan Police District.
