To ask the President of the Council on how many occasions between 31 March 2001 and 31 March 2002(a) departmental and (b) non-departmental special advisers have travelled abroad in an official capacity; what places were visited; and how much each visit cost. [58727]

Mr. Robin Cook

During the specified period, one departmental special adviser travelled abroad in an official capacity. He went to Dublin in October 2001 to visit Dáil Éireann in order to explore their proposals for reforming their Chamber. The total cost of this visit was £348.13.
