To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what steps he is taking to assist the rehabilitation of prisoners. [57062]

The Government is investing an additional £31 million in 2001–02, £50 million in 2002–03 and £71 million in 2003–04 on basic skills, drug treatment, offending behaviour programmes and resettlement to help assist prisoner rehabilitation and reduce the rate of reconvictions.
