HC Deb 10 June 2002 vol 386 c813W
Ann Clwyd

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what action the Government are taking to ensure that states sign the fundamental conventions of the International Labour Organisation. [58373]

Mr. MacShane

The UK promotes the widest possible ratification of the ILO core conventions and recognises the need for their practical implementation to achieve real change. We take every appropriate opportunity within the ILO itself, and bilaterally, to urge member states to sign up to the 1998 Declaration of Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work as well as ratify the core conventions.
