HC Deb 24 July 2002 vol 389 c1322W
Sandra Gidley

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs how many employees under contract from temping agencies worked in his Department; and how much was spent on temporary staff(a) as a total and (b) as a percentage of the total staffing budget in each of the last five years for which figures are available. [72649]

Mr. Mike O'Brien

We do not have a central record of the numbers of staff employed under contract from agencies and it would involve disproportionate cost to obtain them. We do, however, have the costs, which are:

FY Paybill costs (£) of which: Agency costs (£) Percentage
1997–98 188,078,000 445,944 0.24
1998–99 189,169,000 804,788 0.43
1999–2000 200,368,000 971,657 0.48
2000–01 204,900,000 1,255,817 0.61
2001–021 217,997,000 1,933,841 0.89
1 2001–02 paybill provisional costs
