HL Deb 22 July 2002 vol 638 cc30-1WA
Lord Freyberg

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Further to the Written Answer by the Lord Privy Seal on 10 June (WA16), by what criteria the Cabinet Office distinguishes "antique furniture" from the furniture classified under "fixtures and fittings". [HL5393]

Lord Williams of Mostyn

Heritage assets, which include "antique furniture", are those assets which have been inherited by the department since its earliest existence. These assets are held in trust for future generations because of their cultural, environmental or historical existence.

Within the department furniture is purchased for use by operational staff. This furniture is classified under the heading "fixtures and fittings".
