To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what discussions he had during his visit to China about trade. [69698]

Mr. MacShane

My right hon. Friend the Foreign Secretary had a substantive discussion with Foreign Minister Tang Jiaxuan, during which our commercial interests in the oil and gas, ports and aerospace sectors were raised. In addition, the state of our bilateral commercial relationship was discussed more generally during talks with President Jiang Zemin.
