To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department further to his answer to the hon. Member for the Isle of Wight (Mr. Turner) of 11 February 2002,Official Report, column 48W, on antisocial behaviour orders, how many of the antisocial behaviour orders given in each police/magistrates' court committee area between 1 April 1999 and 30 September 2001 have been breached; and how many of these breaches have resulted in a sentence of imprisonment. To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many antisocial behaviour orders have been applied by UK local authorities in the last year. [70404]

§ Mr. Denham
An anti-social behaviour order (ASBO) is a civil order made by a court which currently can be applied for by a local authority or the police or both combined. The table shows the number of notifications received by the Home Office of ASBOs issued in England and Wales for 2001 (latest available). There were 11 ASBO applications during this period which were refused. Where an ASBO is refused we do not hold information on the applicant.

We are currently considering whether any further checks are needed to ensure the accuracy of the number of ASBOs reported.
