HC Deb 17 July 2002 vol 389 c317W
12. Mr. Bryant

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what estimate his Department has made of the special economic needs of isolated South Wales valleys communities. [67883]

Mr. Touhig

The Wales Office has not made such estimations.

The Government understand the difficulties that the South Wales Valleys communities have faced in recent years, including the Corns redundancies.

The Government welcome the announcements from the Assembly which have been aimed at assisting these specific communities and is confident that such moves will improve the prosperity in Wales, particularly in relation to the manufacturing industry.
