The Department for Work and Pensions was created in April 2001. The information given for 1997 relates to the Department of Social Security. From May 1997 there was one Cabinet Minister (Commons), one Minister of State 1145W (Commons), two Parliamentary Under-Secretaries of State (Commons) and one Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State (Lords).
