To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs how many Egyptian students seeking to enter the UK on medical grounds have been refused visas in the past year; and if he will make a statement. [65234]

[holding answer 3 July 2002]We do not maintain statistics on the number of entry clearance applications received, granted or refused on the basis of seeking to enter the UK on medical grounds. Nor do we at present maintain statistics on the nationality of applicants, although we are currently looking at ways of improving our information technology to enable us to do so.
