HC Deb 08 July 2002 vol 388 c731W
11. Sir Teddy Taylor

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what changes in the policy of his Department on asylum seekers will stem from the decisions made at the Seville EU summit. [64756]

Beverley Hughes

Seville showed that the United Kingdom continues to play a leading role in developing the asylum measures proposed by the Treaty of Amsterdam as a major step towards achieving a common European asylum system. The significant changes in policy envisaged in our Nationality Immigration Asylum (NIA) Bill anticipate the developments we want Seville to deliver.

23. Ann McKechin

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what recent discussions his Department has had with the Scotland Office regarding asylum issues. [64769]

Beverley Hughes

Discussion is continuing with the Scotland Office and the Scottish Executive on the issue of Asylum Centres for asylum seekers. Asylum, as my hon. Friend is aware, is a reserved matter.
