HC Deb 03 July 2002 vol 388 c393W
Mr. David

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make a statement about German land claims in that part of Poland ceded by Germany in 1945. [65591]

Peter Hain

The administrative borders between Poland and Germany were drawn up as part of the Potsdam Agreement in 1945 pending a final delimitation of borders at a peace settlement. No peace settlement was ever concluded. The borders between Poland and the Federal Republic of Germany were confirmed by the 1990 Treaty of Final Settlement with Respect to Germany signed by the Allied powers and the then two German states. They were confirmed in bilateral treaties agreed by Poland and the Federal Republic of Germany in November 1990 and June 1991.
