HC Deb 01 July 2002 vol 388 c101W
Alistair Burt

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what plans he has for the funding within this financial year of noise mitigation measures along the stretch of the Al known as the Biggleswade by-pass; and if he will make a statement. [64912]

Mr. Jamieson

I have asked the chief executive of the Highways Agency, Mr. Tim Matthews, to write to the hon. Member.

Letter from Tim Matthews to Mr. Alistair Burt, dated 1 July 2002: I have been asked by the Transport Minister, David Jamieson, to reply to your recent Parliamentary Question about noise mitigation on the Biggleswade Bypass. In line with the Government's aim, set out in the 10 Year Plan, of reducing noise for the motorway and trunk road network, Biggleswade Bypass was resurfaced with noise reducing materials in November 2000. Although we have no plans for further noise mitigation measures in this financial year (2002/03) we do recognise that there is a case for further mitigation measures. But our priority is to deal with those sites announced in the House of Commons on 11 November 1999, and known as the Hansard List, by 2004/05. We will look at other sites, such as Biggleswade Bypass after that.
