Chris Ruane

To ask the Secretary of State for Health what his estimate is of the total number of pensioners receiving a visit from a local authority home help in each of the past 10 years. [30566]

Jacqui Smith

Information on the number of pensioners receiving home help is not collected. The table shows the total number of households receiving home help/home care during a survey week from 1992 to 2000 and the number of contact hours provided to those households. Information relating to the age of the oldest member of the household was collected between 1992 and 1998 and is also given in the table. Households may have received more than one visit during the week.
