To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many failed asylum seekers were removed from the country in 2001. [29759]

There were 6,830 principal asylum applicants (to the nearest five) removed from the United Kingdom in the period January to September 2001 (the latest period for which information is available). Further information is given in the table.
