To ask the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions what has been the expenditure of his (a) Department, (b) agencies and (c) non-departmental public bodies on newspaper advertising by title in each year since 1997. [26974]

Mr. Nicholas Brown

The Department and its agencies use advertising for various reasons ranging from public information and recruitment to advertising opening hours of local offices. For each occasion national and/or regional media may be used as well as hundreds of local papers.

A breakdown of expenditure on newspaper advertising by title could therefore be supplied only at disproportionate cost.
