HC Deb 10 January 2002 vol 377 cc979-80W
Ms Oona King

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport, Local Government and the Regions what factors account for the reduction in the major repairs allowance available for housing repairs in the London borough of Tower Hamlets. [25878]

Ms Keeble

The major repairs allowance is calculated on a per dwelling basis. Between 1 April 2000 and 31 March 2001 the number of local authority dwellings in Tower Hamlets fell by almost 6 per cent. However, a 2.4 per cent. increase in the allowance per dwelling for next year restricted the overall reduction in Tower Hamlets' 2002–03 allocation to 3.6 per cent.
