To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer how many jobs in manufacturing were lost between the second quarter of 1997 and the latest date for which figures are available. [25293]

Letter from John Kidgell to Mr. John Bercow, dated 9 January 2002: The National Statistician has been asked to reply to your recent question about the reduction in the number of manufacturing jobs since the second quarter of 1997. I am replying in his absence. (25293). The table below shows the number of employee jobs in manufacturing for the second quarter of 1997 and August-October 2001 (three-month rolling averages) for comparative purposes.
