HC Deb 28 February 2002 vol 380 c1485W
Dr. Kumar

To ask the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what plans her Department has for the future of British Shipbuilders. [40166]

Brian Wilson

British Shipbuilders still exists, under Statute, as a Nationalised Industry, although it is some years since it built ships or manufactured equipment. The only significant remaining liability of the Corporation is Employer Liability. It is intended that an official of the Department of Trade and Industry will be appointed Chairman as from 4 March, following expiry of the tenure of the current Chairman on 3 March.
